When searching for resources for your paper or seeking any help, ask our librarians.

If you’re still worried about what and how to ask for help, here are some tips.

What can I ask?

We’ve seen all kinds of questions students have asked during the appointments:
  1. How do I know when I’ve searched enough?
  2. How to access a journal article, book, or other publication that’s hard to find？
  3. I haven’t used libraries like this much or at all before. How to use BobCat?
  4. I’m not sure where to start and would like to talk it through.
  5. What are the tips about searching in an unfamiliar discipline?
  6. About what I’ve found – is this a publication? Is it credible? Does it count as peer-reviewed?
  7. How to use Zotero, RefWorks, or EndNote?
  8. It is too much and I am not sure how to narrow what I choose to read.

Where to find our librarians?

On Library’s homepage, you can find the chatbox. Type your questions directly to the librarians, and they will respond timely online. (This is not an auto-reply from robots!)

The “magic spot” to the left of the circulation desk is always there for you.
There are other screens available to be connected to your own device as an extension screen.Look for these HDMI plugs with purple stickers.

Event Recap: Oral History Summer Apprenticeship Showcase Presentation

On Thursday September 23, NYUSH Humanities and Library hosted “What Makes Us NYU Shanghai” – the Oral History Summer Apprenticeship Showcase Presentation.

The event attracted 28 students, faculty and staff from various backgrounds to attend and more joined online through Zoom.

Five student trainees took lectures on oral history in early June. After conducted their own research on topics of a common theme “What Makes US NYU Shanghai”,  the students shared with the wider NYU Shanghai community their research findings.

Prof. Shuang Wen introduced the background of this event.

Junyi Tang started from his own background in business and probed into what builds the identity of NYU Shanghai.

Yue Jia explored the public image of NYU Shanghai from the perspectives of Admission staff, parents, and peers.

Yining Yan looked into the design and experience of ARC.

Tracey Lan interviewed to explore the meaning and purpose of GPS.

Shu Min Tan shared her interviews with Chinese restaurant owners in Abu Dhabi.

Lauren Kata, Archives and Special Collections librarian in NYUAD also joined as a commentator.

The presentation sparked and fostered curiosities of the young minds at NYU Shanghai to rethink about what is history, as well as inspired and encouraged the class 2025 to try it out in the future.

Tomorrow: What Makes Us NYU Shanghai? Oral History Summer Apprenticeship Showcase Presentation

Have you ever wondered how scholars in the Humanities conduct research to collect data?

Taking one of the methodologies in the discipline of History as an experiment, the 2021 Summer Oral History Apprenticeship seeks to spark and foster curiosities of the young minds at NYU Shanghai to rethink about what is history.

The selected student trainees took intensive lectures in early June, after which they conducted their own research on topics of a common theme–What Makes US NYU Shanghai?

Now having completed their projects, the students are proud to share with the wider NYU Shanghai community:

  • How can the oral history skills acquired benefit them in the future, even if they are NOT Humanities/History majors;
  • What is unique about NYU Shanghai compared to other universities in China?
  • Their overall learning experience (what they’ve learned? mistakes or challenges they had faced and how they overcame them? etc) from the program to encourage the class 2025 to try it out as well in the future!

Tomorrow, for the Oral History Summer Apprenticeship Showcase Presentation, in Rm 415 at 1-3pm, for answers gathered from alumnus, staff, and faculty from ARC to GPS, from Admissions to various academic divisions, as well as NYUSH students studying away at NYUAD & NYUAD students going local at NYUSH.

Refreshments and SWAGs are provided.
