Thank you to everyone who has submitted a design for the TextbookForward Logo Design Contest, and to those who joined our information sessions and tabling events. We’ve been inspired by your creativity and enthusiasm!

We’ve also heard from students who are still working on their designs, and we understand that midterm season can be a busy time. In response to this feedback, the organizing committee is extending the submission deadline to Thursday, November 6th 2025.

A student-centered initiative that collects gently used textbooks and lends them out for free to students in need. It’s about affordability, sustainability, and community support—all in one program.

EBSCOhost User Interface Update – August 5, 2025

EBSCO has announced that all EBSCOhost and EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) profiles will be automatically migrated to a new user interface (UI) on August 5, 2025. This change is part of a system-wide update across all EBSCO platforms.

Key Information for Users

  • Automatic Transition
    The update will take place automatically on August 5. No action is required from users.
  • Updated Interface
    According to EBSCO, the new interface is intended to be more streamlined and intuitive. Users may notice changes in layout, navigation, and search features.
  • Support and Training Resources
    EBSCO has provided tutorials, getting-started guides, and best practices on their support site: EBSCO Connect.

If you have questions or run into issues after the update, please contact the library. We’ll do our best to assist or direct you to the appropriate support resources.

Library 6th Floor Closure Notice – from July 11-Aug 1

The library’s 6th floor will be temporarily closed for approximately three weeks from July 11 to August 1, due to a construction project to install ceiling-mounted dehumidifiers.

What to Expect:

  • The 6th floor will be closed to users, and most physical copies, including the main, Leisure, Career, Chinese Language Learning, and PPL collections, will be inaccessible.
  • The 5th floor will remain open. Course Reserves and the Media Collection will be available for browsing and self-checkout. 
  • Please note: some noise and dust may occur during the construction period. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

If you need materials from the closed collections, please submit your request using this form. You will receive an email notification when your items are ready for pickup at the Library Service Desk on the 5th floor.

Moving On? Pass It On – Donate Your Textbooks To TextbookForward!

As you wrap up, consider giving your textbooks a second life through TextbookForward, a new initiative from the Library and Student Affairs. Your gently used physical textbooks will be made available for other students to borrow for free – helping those who need them most next semester.

What Can Be Donated? 

We accept textbooks that:

  • Have been used for courses at NYU Shanghai
  • Are still in reusable condition

 Note: We cannot accept GPS coursepacks, as they are customized for specific semesters and cannot be reused in future classes.

As a token of our appreciation, you can choose to receive a digital donation certificate from the Library – just indicate that on the donation form

You’ll also have the option to leave a message for the next user of your textbook(s) – a small gesture that can make a big impact!

Roary’s Tip: Check your ILL Request Status

So you’ve placed your ILL request, and you wait eagerly 🤩🤩for your request to arrive. 

How do you know where on the journey your request is at?

Step 1

Navigate to “My Requests” to check the status of your request on NYUSH library website. 

OR visit the ILL page.

Step 2

Click on “Request History“, which is on the left side of the page.

Step 3

Then look for the right-most column to check out the request status.

Step 4

You will be notified via email when the item has been received and where it can be picked up. 

Roary’s tips: Using the Interlibrary Loan service

The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service is a powerful tool to help you obtain library materials not available in NYU Shanghai Library. Here are some tips to help you love it even more!

Tip 1 – Plan your research in advance

The ILL service works like magic.✨🔮. But it’s not really done by magic. 

Once submitted⬆️, your ILL request needs to travel between us and a lending library.

The speed at which you can get your hands on your requested material depends on its availability.

Try to place your ILL request as early as possible! Don’t wait for the whooshing sound of the deadline as it flies by!

On the ILL request form🗒️, you can find a column that asks you for when you need this material by. Make use of this field!
