Meet your Instructional Technologists

We are dedicated to helping faculty utilize instructional and research tools and technologies for teaching and research. We develop Technology Enhanced Education (TEE) initiatives that assist the community in exploring innovative ways to impact teaching and learning with instructional technology.


Adrian Hodge
Head of Research and Instructional Technology Services

Adrian manages the RITS team towards the development of a range of educational technology and data projects at NYU Shanghai. He has an information management background in government, health and education sectors in the UK and Asia.

Adrian works in close consultation with faculty to understand pedagogy needs in the use of instructional technologies as well as the development of a range of TEE (Technology Enhanced Education) experiments and initiatives in fully online and blended learning courses, working closely with instructional technologists at NYU Shanghai and across the NYU’s global locations.


Yun Dai
Educational Technologist for Data Services

Yun joined the team as a data services consultant following her Technology Enhancement Education Fellowship with the Library.  She supports statistical computing and visualization tools through workshops, in-class instructions, consultations and online guides for faculty, students and research staff.

Yun has developed a range of data resources, and cooperates with other parties on research projects utilizing her data skills. She built up and co-manages the Chinese Datasets Archive with the Center for Data Science and Analytics.

Yun holds her Bachelor’s degree from Peking University and her Master’s from Columbia University (GSAS).


Noel Konagai
Technology Enhanced Education Fellow

Noel is a Technology Enhanced Education Fellow at NYU Shanghai who explores applications of machine learning, VR, and AR in an instructional setting.

Noel joined the Research and Instructional Technology team after graduating from the inaugural class of 2017 at NYU Shanghai. His passion lies in artificial intelligence and machine learning. His workshops are centered around the skills that are most in demand in data science.

Aside from being a data freak, Noel also loves Chinese tea and is passionate about learning languages.


Fan Luo
Faculty Technology Specialist

Fan is a Faculty Technology Specialist at NYU Shanghai. She holds a Master degree in Information Science and has worked as consultant, designer, and project manager on educational projects.

Fan joined NYU Shanghai in fall 2016 and works closely with faculty to facilitate teaching through the application of various instructional technologies including GIS, data visualization, LMS, blended and online learning etc. She develops and delivers workshops based upon the request of faculty.

Together with the Research and Instructional Technology (RITS) team and specialists over the global communities of NYU, Fan collaborates with colleagues to provide technical support and pedagogical consultation for faculty.


Angela Wang
Teaching and Learning Technology Supervisor

Angela is a Teaching and Learning Technology Supervisor at NYU Shanghai who works closely with faculty and students as well as instructional technologists in Shanghai and New York.

She consults with faculty to support daily operation of academic tools such as NYU Classes, NYU Stream, E-Textbooks and other systems in their teaching and research. She also facilitates workshops on NYU academic tools and other technology skills such as Microsoft Office for faculty, students, and staff at NYU Shanghai.

Angela holds bachelor degrees in both Computer Science and English from East China Normal University.


Mia Zhuo
Senior Faculty Technology Specialist

Mia is a consultant and designer who works closely with faculty in conceptualization, development, and redesign of courses that are both offered in classroom settings and online formats.

She holds her Double Masters in Global Media and Communications from LSE and USC, and leverages her skills to help faculty and students incorporate multimedia, among other digital tools, in their teaching, research and learning.

She also facilitates workshops on video production, animation, and digital expressions for faculty, students, and staff at NYU Shanghai. In addition to consulting and training, she provides support for the pedagogical use of NYU Classes.

 

Library Hours during Winter Break

As the fall semester is approaching the end, the NYU Shanghai Library’s collection and services will open from 9 AM to 5 PM during the winter break. Please be advised that it will close during Christmas and New Year’s Day holiday.

Meet Your Librarians

Did you know there are reference librarians in the library who can help you locate the information and resources you need, assist with your research project, help with citing your paper, and much more.

In-person assistance is available at the reference desk in the library on the 4th floor, Monday through Thursday from 12-2pm. No appointment necessary — just drop by when you need assistance.

One-on-one research consultations are also available through the library. You are encouraged to make an appointment with your subject librarians.

Qinghua
Head of Access Services & STEM Librarian

Qinghua Xu is the library’s Head of Access Services, and subject liaison to students and faculty in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Favourite thing about being a librarian:  “Being a librarian is a rewarding experience. You know that every little thing you do can make a positive impact on users’ teaching and learning experience.”

Fun Fact: “It is a small world! I recently connected with my childhood best friend who I haven’t met for nearly 30 years through WeChat.”

Caitlin MacKenzie Mannion is the Reference and Research Services Coordinator, and subject liaison to students and faculty in Arts and Humanities.

Favourite thing about being a librarian:  “I love my one-on-one consultations with students who are working on research projects. I always end up learning something new from them!”

Fun Fact: “I’ve been playing classical violin for over 20 years!”

 

 


Edward
Reference and Research Services Librarian for Business

Edward Lim is the subject librarian for Business. He is one of the newest members of the library team, joining us from the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

Favourite thing about being a librarian:  “Nobody questions when a librarian makes a recommendation! As a librarian, we get to experiment with technology and the latest gadgets and software.”

Fun Fact: “I can drive a car and ride a horse, but I have not picked up cycling. I almost never buy print books for personal reading.”


Jennifer
Reference and Research Services Librarian for Social Sciences and Economics

Jennifer Stubbs is the subject librarian for Social Sciences and Economics. She is the newest member of the library team. Prior to NYU Shanghai, Jennifer was a librarian for Albuquerque Bernalillo County Public Library in the US.

Favourite thing about being a librarian:
“My sister says the thing about librarians is we love to search. People come to us because they want to find one thing. I will keep searching and exploring tangents and different databases, so feel free to interrupt me and say, I have what I need, thanks! Bye.”

Fun Fact: “My initials match the scary shark movie: JAWS.”

Welcome to a New Semester

Dear NYU Shanghai Community,

Welcome and welcome back!  At the start of the school year, I would like to introduce the exciting changes and additions to the library.

Browsable DVD Collection: Our carefully curated DVD collection is now open for browsing during library hours in the Course Reserve Room.

 

 

 

DVD Viewing Room: This new room is equipped with iMacs and Blueray players for you to use our DVD collection for leisure and research purposes.

 

 

Curiosity Lab: The library will start to host our series of research and technology workshops in this new, collaborative teaching and learning space inside the library.

 

 

Expanded Chinese Language Leisure Collection: Through a collaboration with the Pudong Public Library, we now have 500 new leisure titles ready for circulating. Each year, we will bring in new titles to the collection.

 

I welcome you to visit us to check out the new spaces and collections. Hope the changes will further enrich your teaching and learning experience at NYUSH.

Systems Outage 7/28

Silent Study During Finals

During the stressful period of finals, the entire Library and Academic Commons Area will be reserved for Silent Study in responding to students need for solo study.

Discussions and food will NOT be allowed starting from May 11th.

There will also be a coloring station behind the circulation desk to help you relieve stress.

NYU Libraries’ Online Systems Back Online

Update: All NYU Libraries’ online systems are back online now.

Many of the NYU Libraries’ online systems will be unavailable for a brief period on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 starting at 8 pm. We anticipate a brief interruption of access to BobCat, journals, databases, interlibrary loan, and E-ZBorrow. Please plan your research accordingly.
