The library’s 6th floor will be temporarily closed for approximately three weeks from July 11 to August 1, due to a construction project to install ceiling-mounted dehumidifiers.
What to Expect:
The 6th floor will be closed to users, and most physical copies, including the main, Leisure, Career, Chinese Language Learning, and PPL collections, will be inaccessible.
The 5th floor will remain open. Course Reserves and the Media Collection will be available for browsing and self-checkout.
Please note: some noise and dust may occur during the construction period. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
If you need materials from the closed collections, please submit your request using this form. You will receive an email notification when your items are ready for pickup at the Library Service Desk on the 5th floor.
For questions or concerns, feel free to contact us at shanghai.library@nyu.edu.
As you wrap up, consider giving your textbooks a second life through TextbookForward, a new initiative from the Library and Student Affairs. Your gently used physical textbooks will be made available for other students to borrow for free – helping those who need them most next semester.
What Can Be Donated?
We accept textbooks that:
Have been used for courses at NYU Shanghai
Are still in reusable condition
Note: We cannot accept GPS coursepacks, as they are customized for specific semesters and cannot be reused in future classes.
As a token of our appreciation, you can choose to receive a digital donation certificate from the Library – just indicate that on the donation form.
You’ll also have the option to leave a message for the next user of your textbook(s) – a small gesture that can make a big impact!

We’re thrilled to kick off a series of exciting events designed to celebrate the art of citation and the importance of academic integrity. Join us for workshops, scavenger hunt, and interactive sessions that will make citing sources not only easy but fun!
Citation Scavenger Hunt – available all month!
Pick up a scavenger hunt worksheet from the Library Service Desk to participate. Complete the worksheet by following the trail of citations, and submit your worksheet in the drop box. Completed worksheets will be entered into a draw for prizes!
Students in GPS can ask for a Completion Certificate from the Library Service Desk when they submit their completed worksheet.
Tracking down a specific source from a citation can be tricky, but it’s an important research strategy! You can see how researchers develop ideas by building on each other, like a conversation, and find important sources for your research projects. It can also help you complete our Citation Scavenger Hunt! In this workshop you’ll learn how to be a smarter, more efficient researcher by following citations in your syalbus, assigned readings, or a GPS reader.
Oct 9, 5:15-6:15 PM in W507 Active Learning Classroom
You’ve read their papers, but who are you really citing? Bring your reference or works cited list (finished or in-progress) to this creative event and learn more about who’s supporting your work.
Do you need to cite something created by generative AI in your assignment, or acknowledge that you’ve used generative AI in your work? Librarians and ARC Fellows are here to help, no appointment needed.
Due to planned system maintenance, the library online catalog and catalog search tools will be offline for approximately 2 hours, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM CST.

This fall the NYU Division of Libraries has been working on a system migration project to better support our online catalog and the materials we can offer our users.
The migration will be complete in early January and released on January 8th, 2024.
Here’s What to Expect
The catalog interface will look and feel very similar but will include a few big updates & features:
A large percentage of articles NYU subscribes to will now be findable in the catalog. You’ll be able to search for books, journals, articles, and more in one location.
The EBSCO Discovery (EDS) article search tool on the Articles & Databases page will be retired in summer 2024.
Saved items will be managed directly in the catalog system. No more having to go to the external eShelf tool.
Streamlined requesting process. Make Interlibrary Loan requests from within the catalog for items that aren’t available at NYU.
We’ll be moving away from the “BobCat” branding for the catalog.
The tools we use behind the scenes will be all new and will help our staff better manage our millions of items.
Due to system migration, there are changes to borrowing and request services during December 2023 and January 2024.
Important Service Changes
Fri. Dec. 15 – last day to place an Interlibrary Loan request. We recommend requesting ILL services as early as possible to accommodate your research needs.
Fri. Dec. 22 – last day to borrow and return library materials at the circulation desk, and renew eligible items online. Self-checkout will be unavailable after 5:00 PM. Any changes made to your Library Account or the status of borrowed or returned items after this date will not be reflected until January.
Fri. Dec. 22, 2023 – Wed. Jan 3, 2024
The circulation desk will close at 5:00 PM on Dec. 22 and reopen on Jan. 3, 2024. Visit our hours page for details.
Book drops will be available if you wish to return items but items will not be checked in until the system migration is completed in early January. Any fines accrued during this period will be waived when these items are returned.
Should you have any questions and concerns, please contact shanghai.circulation@nyu.edu so that we can work with you individually.
Great news! You can now access our library facilities by simply swiping your NFC-enabled devices, such as your phone or iWatch once they have been activated with the digital campus card. Say goodbye to physical cards and enjoy easy entry with a quick swipe!
