We’re thrilled to kick off a series of exciting events designed to celebrate the art of citation and the importance of academic integrity. Join us for workshops, scavenger hunt, and interactive sessions that will make citing sources not only easy but fun!
Citation Scavenger Hunt – available all month!
Pick up a scavenger hunt worksheet from the Library Service Desk to participate. Complete the worksheet by following the trail of citations, and submit your worksheet in the drop box. Completed worksheets will be entered into a draw for prizes!
Students in GPS can ask for a Completion Certificate from the Library Service Desk when they submit their completed worksheet.
Tracking down a specific source from a citation can be tricky, but it’s an important research strategy! You can see how researchers develop ideas by building on each other, like a conversation, and find important sources for your research projects. It can also help you complete our Citation Scavenger Hunt! In this workshop you’ll learn how to be a smarter, more efficient researcher by following citations in your syalbus, assigned readings, or a GPS reader.
Oct 9, 5:15-6:15 PM in W507 Active Learning Classroom
You’ve read their papers, but who are you really citing? Bring your reference or works cited list (finished or in-progress) to this creative event and learn more about who’s supporting your work.
Do you need to cite something created by generative AI in your assignment, or acknowledge that you’ve used generative AI in your work? Librarians and ARC Fellows are here to help, no appointment needed.
Due to planned system maintenance, the library online catalog and catalog search tools will be offline for approximately 2 hours, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM CST.
We apologize for any inconvenience. If you need assistance during the outage, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. You can visit the library in person, contact us by phone at +86 21 20595615, email us at shanghai.library@nyu.edu, or use the chat widget on the library website.
This fall the NYU Division of Libraries has been working on a system migration project to better support our online catalog and the materials we can offer our users.
The migration will be complete in early January and released on January 8th, 2024.
Here’s What to Expect
The catalog interface will look and feel very similar but will include a few big updates & features:
A large percentage of articles NYU subscribes to will now be findable in the catalog. You’ll be able to search for books, journals, articles, and more in one location.
The EBSCO Discovery (EDS) article search tool on the Articles & Databases page will be retired in summer 2024.
Saved items will be managed directly in the catalog system. No more having to go to the external eShelf tool.
Streamlined requesting process. Make Interlibrary Loan requests from within the catalog for items that aren’t available at NYU.
We’ll be moving away from the “BobCat” branding for the catalog.
The tools we use behind the scenes will be all new and will help our staff better manage our millions of items.
Due to system migration, there are changes to borrowing and request services during December 2023 and January 2024.
Important Service Changes
Fri. Dec. 15 – last day to place an Interlibrary Loan request. We recommend requesting ILL services as early as possible to accommodate your research needs.
Fri. Dec. 22 – last day to borrow and return library materials at the circulation desk, and renew eligible items online. Self-checkout will be unavailable after 5:00 PM. Any changes made to your Library Account or the status of borrowed or returned items after this date will not be reflected until January.
Fri. Dec. 22, 2023 – Wed. Jan 3, 2024
The circulation desk will close at 5:00 PM on Dec. 22 and reopen on Jan. 3, 2024. Visit our hours page for details.
Book drops will be available if you wish to return items but items will not be checked in until the system migration is completed in early January. Any fines accrued during this period will be waived when these items are returned.
Should you have any questions and concerns, please contact shanghai.circulation@nyu.edu so that we can work with you individually.
Great news! You can now access our library facilities by simply swiping your NFC-enabled devices, such as your phone or iWatch once they have been activated with the digital campus card. Say goodbye to physical cards and enjoy easy entry with a quick swipe!
We are thrilled to announce the commencement of the pilot period for an upgrade of the ‘Save My Spot’ system.
As part of this upgrade, we are excited to introduce a brand new locker located on the 6th floor of the library, where you can store unattended items left by others, following the ‘Respectful Item Removal Guidelines’.
Starting today, we invite YOU to be a part of this exciting initiative aimed at maximizing the availability of library seats for the benefit of all users.
To ensure you the best experience when using ‘Save My Spot’, please check out this introduction video.
Thank you for your continued support as we continue to improve the library environment for all. We look forward to your participation and feedback. Contact us at shanghai.circulation@nyu.edu if you have any questions!
Thank you for all your patience. With IT’s assistance and after several rounds of testing, we are glad to inform you that Wind remote access is now available through NYU Shanghai’s Virtual Computer Lab at the New Bund Campus!
How to Apply
To apply for remote access, please fill out an application first.
Important Note
You should use Wind ONLY for the purpose of course assignments, Capstone Project or scholarly research.
Using Wind for commercial purposes is prohibited. You can never share full or substantial portions of articles, profiles, reports, spreadsheets, datasets, etc. from Wind with anyone outside of NYU Shanghai, including experiential client projects, internships, and current employers.
Please make a booking to use Wind on VCL. Visit https://nyushanghai.libcal.com/space/44250 to book a timeslot (maximum duration is 120 minutes.) Please only log on to the terminal after reserving your time (China Standard Time).
Only one user can use the Wind service at a time. We ask our users to be attentive to their booked slots.
Each Wind terminal has a download limit through Excel Add-In (also known as API). When the terminal is at its limit, you will see an error message when loading data and wait for a week before it resets.
Please remember to be considerate to fellow users – only download what you need or export data from the terminal interface directly which doesn’t count in the download limit of Excel Add-In.
Some of you asked if the library loans are due to return. While we warmly welcome you to visit the new library, there is also a choice to renew your items.
If you currently have a semester-long loan book(s), follow these steps to renew. It takes less than 2 minutes:
Login to your Library Account.
Click “Renew” before the due date.
After you renew the new book(s), the new due date will be 05/19/2023.
